about

On a cold, snowy night in January 2016, Mamma's Marmalade laid these tracks down beside the Housatonic railroad line. Three songs about struggle, heartache and hayfields; this is what you get when you put pickle brine, a bluegrass band and a bottle of Johnnie in a recording studio.

Track Name: New England Blues
Rain is tappin' on my window pane
Keeping me awake well past two
Can't seem to shake what the demons say
And I got those damn New England blues
Got those damn New England blues
Got those damn New England blues

For five hundred days I called you mine
A hundred years have passed since then
You broke my heart on the borderline
And I swore I'd never be a fool again
Swore I'd never be a fool again
Swore I'd never be a fool again

Oh loneliness ain't nothing but a chore
When you cannot be with the one you adore
I cannot stand to be alone no more
Cannot stand to be alone no more
Cannot stand to be alone no more

All my friends say just wait and see
Love will come again in time
Sweet as can be and waitin' for me
Like the promise of the summertime
Promise of the summertime
Promise of the summertime

Oh loneliness ain't nothing but a chore
When you cannot be with the one you adore
I cannot stand to be alone no more
Cannot stand to be alone no more
Cannot stand to be alone no more

That rain's still tappin' on my window pane
Keeping me awake well past two
Can't seem to shake what the demons say
And I got those damn New England blues
Got those damn New England blues
Got those damn New England blues
Track Name: You and I
Love is the North Star to the lost, so they say
But lately all my nights have been clouded
There's no one comin' round but there's demons on my doorstep
Better put your hands up, you're surrounded

You and I
We got a couple things in common
There's no such thing as heaven
And we don't know where to draw the line

I'll take some time away
Try to change my luck
But my journey's got me walking under ladders
Well it's true what they say about getting older
You gotta lose it all to see what really matters

You and I
We got a couple things in common
There's no such thing as heaven
And we don't know where to draw the line

I won't cry you a river
But I'd swim a hundred miles upstream just to see you smile
And you know with each passing minute
The water's getting warmer all the while

You and I
We got a lot of earthly blessings
We got our bodies and our minds
And we can read between the lines

You and I
Track Name: Miss Fitz
Take me out, help me walk
I've been runnin' from this talk
Help me sing a memory,
Reminisce in harmony

Take me back to that night
On a moonlight path, where barefeet landed light
Through a darkened wood, Luna did reveal
The secrets of the night the darkness vies to steal.

Build a wall, hide the sign, a shelter from the passing hands of time
Throw away your state of mind, the heart will show you what it is to find
The truth behind my eyes it lies, but wouldn't you just see through my disguise
Hear it in the gentle breeze so honest and unkind,
Fleeting words gone unheard you'll never find

Swim for a haven under the moon,
Where fireflies they dance to a cricket's tune.
Sea of green bends softly reaching for the sky,
One by one the stars they fall for you and I.

With my heart in the mountain,
My body in the valley low,
I'm saving what I can,
Getting ready to go
